A Massive Early Winter Haul

Posted on January 02, 2016 under Hauls

Before I start, I thought I’d mention that Marina Miracle has generously created a coupon code so you lovely readers can get 20% off Marina Miracle products. I have truly seen a huge difference in my skin since I started using them two months ago and I would recommend them wholeheartedly. I’m mentioning this because I believe in the product; it’s not an affiliate code! You can enter the code CLEMENTINE20 at checkout if you want to try out these lovely natural Norwegian products!

It seems that I only do haul posts when I have quite a lot to show off. I think the only other haul I’ve done on this blog is when I showed you everything I bought on my year abroad, which, unsurprisingly, was a rather sizeable chunk of product.

Between gifts, gift cards, and treating myself, this has been a month of some intense acquisition. I’m always in decluttering mode, but sometimes that instant gratification of a (well thought-out) purchase is just unbeatable. Without further ado, here is a large pile of things I accumulated in the tail end of 2015.

I mentioned to my work pal that I really wanted to try the Lancôme Grandiôse mascara (mainly because I’m a sucker for the absurdly beautiful packaging), and she told me she had two unopened ones from various workshops she’d attended. (Perks of working in cosmetics, though I didn’t reap these particular benefits.) When she offered one to me, I eagerly accepted! She’s always looking to fob things off on me (which I always do to my friends and family, so I get it), so from her I also got Clarins Truly Waterproof Mascara, Quo #815 lashes in the old packaging, Tweezerman Slant Tip Tweezers, Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Ultra Lipstick in Cassis, ad an unbranded loose powder. (If any recognizes the packaging let me know!)

I’m a well-documented superfan of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes, and I added two new ones to my collection in December. First I treated myself to Radiant Magenta after my exam, and then my amazing, generous friend Kristin got me Mood Exposure for Christmas. I have obsessively swatched all the other ALBs at Sephora, and I think I now have all the ones that I want. (Etheral Glow is too light, and I think Incandesent Electra and Dim Infusion would both be too similar to Luminous Flush, which I already own.) Of course, their highlighters are about to launch, and considering I said about a month ago that I would do anything for Hourglass highlighters, I think I know where I’ll turn my attentions next…

Kristin also got me this L’Occitane Almond Oil set because she knows how much I love it. It comes with the full-size 500mL Almond Oil, a 100mL jar of the Almond Milk Concentrate, the Delicious Soap, a sample of the Almond Supple Skin Oil, and a hand cream which I’ve already given to my mom because she loves L’Occitane hand cream. I am obsessed with the Almond Oil already, so I can’t wait to try out the other products!

I also cashed in a lot of Shoppers Optimum Points – one chunk of $170 before Christmas (which mostly went towards Christmas presents), and then another $170 after Christmas. I picked up a few boring bits – Essence Brow Gel; L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Concealer; Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation – but I made sure to treat myself as well.

From Stila I got the Eyes Are The Window eyeshadow palette in Spirit, which I have been lusting after since they first launched around a year ago. I probably definitely don’t need anymore neutral eyeshadow, but I love Stila shadows and some of those colours are so gorgeous and different but still wearable. Also from Stila, I picked up a Perfecting Concealer (in the lightest shade) for blemishes, as well as a Stay All Day liquid liner in Snow. (More on that to come!)

I decided to use my points on the Nuxe Rêve de Miel lip balm, which at $17 CAD actually seems reasonable compared to the $46 Arbonne Lip Treatment I’ve been using for the past few months. Also for the lips, I grabbed a Clinique Quickliner For Lips in the shade Intense Jam, which I intend to use with MAC Rebel. (In the swatch picture, Rebel is on the top and Intense Jam is on the bottom.)

Now we’re moving into seriously indulgent territory. At this point in my life I would never spend actual money on luxury items, but when I have hundreds of dollars of Optimum points just sitting there begging to be used, well… things happen. I grabbed Guerlain Rose Aux Joues Blush in Wonder Violette, Guerlain Les Écrin 4 Couleurs in Violines (beautiful taupe-y purple colours, which I adore), and the limited edition Chanel Blush Harmony in Sunkiss Ribbon, which when swirled together creates a gorgeous glowy peach shade.

I get a lot of free cosmetic items through work, which is undoubtedly one of the most obvious benefits to working in the cosmetics industry. For Christmas, my boss put together a goodie bag for everyone on the team. This is the third or fourth sizeable endowment of free shit I’ve received through this job in a year and a half, and that’s not even counting the bits and bobs I’ve acquired here and there through brand reps and other cosmetics industry hookups.

This isn’t even everything – just what I brought back to Montreal with me. Here we have the Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo With Oat Extract (which I’ve used before and liked), Aderma Exomega DEFI Emollient Balm (my customers love this stuff so I can’t wait to try it), Aderma Exomega Emollient Cleansing Oil (you know how I feel about cleansing oils!), Vichy Idélia Eye Cream, and Avène Hydrance Optimale Légére moisturizer. Lots of nice skincare goodies to try out!

Lastly, I finally got a chance to check out the H&M beauty department at the Eaton Centre. (I swear that H&M has become three times as big since the last time I was there!) I was a bit overwhelmed with everything, but my coworker and I both ended up grabbing a Pure Radiance Powder Blusher in Cherry, which is a vibrant, pigmented magenta unlike any other blush I have. I can see it pairing amazingly with MAC Rebel.

Phew, that’s a lot of new stuff that I have to somehow make room for in my collection! You can definitely expect quite a few reviews over the next little while, since I have quite a stack of products to try out now.

  • Love, love that Chanel limited edition blush! I cringed at the price but couldn’t help it. I’m kind of iffy on the H&M blushes because sometimes I feel they’re SO pigmented that they become hard to deal with. Oh and that Stila palette? I need to see how you make it work. It was a crumbly, powdery mess on me :(. So unfortunate because it’s beautiful. Lol, I love how I just came and gave my mini review on your haul. :)

    • The H&M blush definitely does take the pigment a step too far, in my opinion, especially since I’m so fair that any colour immediately looks stark against my skin. But with a stippling brush and a lot of blending power I think it’s gorgeous. I’ll have to see how the Stila shadows work for me – I’ve swatched them several times and they’ve seemed lovely, but I haven’t yet actually used them on the eyes. I hope they work for me because I’ve had really good luck with Stila shadows and I adore the colours. So sad it didn’t work for you!

  • I want that Chanel blush so badly, but I’m yet to head to a counter to actually see it in person and buy it. I love all of the goodies you picked up – I enjoy decluttering, but sometimes new bits and pieces are just lovely to use :)
